Brant Ritter's light- based Plexiglas
constructions stem from an art making process concerned with an ongoing
exploration of the quantum characteristic and elemental forces of the
physical world. In this current body of work, the artist is
utilizing Plexiglas to explore the idea of light as a media, allowing it
to convey weight, volume and structure, while simultaneously dissolving
the planes and materiality of the acrylic. The optical qualities
of the acrylic sheets allow the artist to manipulate the light in a way
that begins to uncover the core of the material's makeup. Formally, Ritter's work exists in an unnamable place between sculpture, painting and architecture. It is these interstices that the artist believes the most visually and intellectually exciting forms occur. Brant Ritter received his MFA in 1998 from the University of Pennsylvania, and his BA in Architecture from Lehigh University in 1995. His work has been included in several exhibitions in New York and Philadelphia. The artist resides in Downtown Los Angeles. |
