Jemma Han¡¯s ¡°The Relationship - To Be One¡± will open at the Sabina Lee Gallery in Los Angeles on November 8, 2003. The artist will introduce us to the unrecognized and neglected objects in our daily lives that is so crucial in holding things together, including ourselves. Jemma Han uses objects such as hinges, snap buttons, zipper, and sockets and power plugs in her work to connect one material from another to symbolize the communication in human relationships, between woman to man, parent to child. So ingenious and powerful are these things at creating functionalities by building ¡°relationships¡± between otherwise singular entities, it is with a profound sense of irony that we realize that their presence and function go unnoticed. When making entrance, what meets your eye is the door, not the hinges. A wooden panel that cannot be opened or closed is not a door. Only with the presence of hinges does a door earn its meaning and use and only with communication can there be a relationship. Jemma Han¡¯s work will be displayed at Sabina Lee Gallery from November 8 until November 29, 2003. Opening reception will be held on the evening of November 8, 2003 from 6-8 pm.
